Part of The Crescent Wilds series, this surreal bayou dreamscape transforms the rhythms of Southern life into a strange and enchanting mythology. At its heart, a Creole mermaid balances atop an enormous crawfish that rises like a living tree of life, its limbs crowded with chickens gathered in quiet procession. Around them, oversized pitcher plants, orchids, and cascading white flowers blur the boundaries between garden and swamp.

A yellow shotgun house hides among the foliage while laundry lines stretch across the scene, and winged alligators linger near a weathered washtub and washboard. The House That Fed the Rougarou draws on Creole visual culture, bayou folklore, and the rituals of domestic life to imagine the Louisiana landscape as something more than wilderness—a living world shaped by labor, memory, resilience, and enchantment, where even the ordinary can become mythic.
