About the Work

Joy, danger, courage, and charm collide in “Bayou Swing,” a playful Louisiana reimagining of Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s famous Rococo painting The Swing. Here, a woman arcs through the humid Louisiana air on a rope swing, carefree and radiant, soaring above a bayou teeming with wide-eyed gators—affectionately known as swamp puppies. Their expressions blur the line between hunger and adoration, creating a tension that is playful, mischievous, and faintly dangerous.

Is she fearless? Oblivious? Ambivalent?
Or does she understand something about courage that we forget as adults—
that sometimes facing the things that terrify us can feel like pure joy?

“Bayou Swing” captures that electric balance: the thrill of risk, the sweetness of innocence, and the beauty of choosing delight even when hungry shadows lurk below.
