About the Work
Featured in the R.W. Norton Art Gallery’s New Orleans in Art exhibit, this mixed-media collage drifts into the dreamscape of New Orleans, where even submerged homes hum with memory and melody. A once-proud shotgun house rests beneath the bayou’s surface, transformed rather than lost—its story carried by the water. Dragonfly-fish hybrids glide through soft currents, their iridescent wings catching whispers of the past, while a Creole mermaid listens to the haunting song of a vintage gramophone above. Torn music sheets, chairs, and lamps float like relics of a life remembered, while a trumpet lies quiet on the silted floor, its tune absorbed by the deep.
“The House That Sunk” honors the city’s unbroken rhythm—its capacity to endure, transform, and sing even in silence. A reflection of New Orleans’ resilience and mystique, it celebrates the poetry found beneath the surface, where sound, spirit, and memory flow together in the timeless currents of the Crescent City.
About the Print
Each framed artisan canvas print is crafted to gallery standards, designed to showcase fine art with timeless sophistication. Printed on archival-quality poly-cotton canvas, each piece offers a wide color gamut, deep contrast, and a smooth satin finish ideal for detailed art reproductions.
The canvas features a 1½" deep stretch mount set inside a 2" natural wood gallery float frame, handcrafted from sustainably sourced hardwood. This floating presentation adds dimension and elegance, allowing the artwork to appear as if it’s suspended within the frame.
