Bayou Reindeer is a playful daydream rooted in the Louisiana bayou. A pin-up-inspired Cajun cowgirl glides through the swamp in a pirogue, rounding up a rather unconventional herd of “reindeer”—alligators trailing behind her through the water instead of a cowboy’s usual cattle.

The piece draws on the colorful storytelling, humor, and larger-than-life characters of South Louisiana, with a nod to the beloved Cajun Night Before Christmas. Here, the familiar imagery of a cowgirl and her herd is given a distinctly Louisiana twist: cypress trees, moss-draped waterways, weathered fishing camps, and a boat replacing the open range.
